AT.50 Jet Instrument Flying Trainer
Rare original sales description of the AT-50, the first ever British built jet flight trainer. The layout of the system look like the famous Link Trainer, however this system was used to train jet pilots. It could even simulate control flutter at high Mach numbers. The sales manual stated:

"The performance of the AT.50 is approximately that of the Meteor 8 but with the introduction of minor modifications and adjustments, the characteristics of any jet aircraft can be approximately simulated.

   At sea-level, the maximum speed of the trainer is 550 knots and at 40,000 feet, 250 knots indicated. The machine will climb to this altitude in approximately ten minutes with an absolute ceiling of 45,000 feet. During this climb the airspeed readings change from 300 knots at sea-level to 170 knots indicated at 40,000 feet and the Mach readings increase from 0.48 to 0.58. The airspeed system is adjusted to introduce controls flutter at Mach 0.76, making it necessary to throttle back and open the dive brakes in order to bring the "aircraft" once again under control.  The airspeed system may, however, be adjusted to provide a higher critical Mach number."

The jet trainer was advertised as not using more than 20 kilowatt hours a day. It came in two boxes with a total weight of 5.760 pounds (2.600 kg).

About 1960. This is an example of an early analog navigation computer. Miles to go and course had to be dialed in by the pilots for a leg. Then the miles-to-go dials were rotated back towards Zero electrically in proportion to the ground speed measured by the Doppler Radar. X-track distance was displayed with the LOC/VOR  needle on the RMI, a separate instrument (not included).
