Dornier 335 Arrow
Smith, J. Richard - Creek, Eddie J. - Hitchcock, Thomas H.
Monarch Series No 2
The Dornier Do 335 Arrow was one of the most unusual single-seat fighters of the Third Reich. Powered by two of the most powerful 12-cylinder engines available at that time, it was probably the fastest propeller-driven warplane of the Second World War. With one engine in the nose and the other buried within its sleek rear fuselage, it had the characteristics of a single-seat fighter, yet the power of two engines. The Do 335 appeared on the production line too late to see operational service. Less than 70 Do 335s were completed, but these few represented a significant bridge between propeller-driven and Jet powered fighters of the postwar period.
