Jeremy's Airport
A Week in the Life of TV's Popular Aeroflot Traffic Supervisor
Spake, Jeremy
Fasten your seat-belts and prepare for take-off, for you are about to go on a tour of Heathrow Airport as you have never seen it before. Your guide for the trip will be none other than yours truly, Jeremy Spake, Aeroflot Traffic Supervisor, and star (some might say) of the BBC documentary, Airport.
Jeremy's Airport is my account of life behind the scenes at Heathrow - one of the world's busiest airports - and you will be accompanying me on a gruelling seven-day shift. My Job is to make sure that all the flights on Aeroflot's busy schedule take off on time - can't be that hard, I hear you say! But throw in 300 missing bread rolls, puppies in band luggage, excess baggage, a delivery of diamonds, a leaky loo and the odd lobster, and you will soon realise that the world of air travel is most definitely weird.
On this journey through the trials and triumphs of my week at Heathrow, you will also meet some of my wonderful colleagues: cat-crazed Aunty Pat, the lovely Kasia, affectionately known as the Empress of Lipstick, and, of course, our engineer, Igor. There will also be some of the BBC film-crew, filming me going about my daily duties for the third series of Airport. I hope that after reading this book, you will be able to spare the occasional sympathetic thought for us down-trodden airline staff, who battle every day to get you up and away on schedule. I am sure you will never think of airports and flying in quite the same way ever again! Chocks away ...
