Andrews, Phillip (Editor)
For the past year Phillip Andrews, editor of AIR NEWS magazine, has been culling the work of such noted aeronautical photographers as William Hoff, Rudy Arnold, William Larkins, Hans Groenhoff, and Harold Kulick. To the great news picture agencies: Press Association, Wide World, European, British Combine, Acme and International the call went out, not for just Stukas and Stinsons, Piper Cubs and P-38's, but for the most beautiful, the most exciting photographs of every plane type in current use. Thousands of excellent prints were assembled and from these 355 of the very best were selected.
Each photograph is completely documented, not with just engine and airframe dato, but with a discerning analysis of its relative position in the current world conflict. Plane types are arranged according to the countries of their origin, with sub-categories predicated on their Utility. American lend-lease equipment appears in both U. S. and British sections. (The U. S. Army A-20 series, for example, differs considerably from its RAF night-fighting counterpart, "The Havoc".) In addition to complete dato on each plane pictured, there are extensive sections on the U. S. Army Air Forces, U. S. Naval Air Service, and the Air Forces of Great Britain, Russia, China, Germany, Italy and Japan.
Printed in sheet fed gravure on flne antique paper, AIR NEWS YEARBOOK paints in word and photographs a vivid, memorable picture of modern aviation the world over.
