V-Missiles of the Third Reich
The V-1 and V-2
Hölsken, Dieter
This book is about the V-Missiles designed and developed by Germany as reprisal weapons in response to the unrelenting Allied bombing of German cities during the Second World War. But more importantly, it is the first indepth book devoted to the history of the V-1 and V-2 published in the English language authored by a German historian.
Dr. Hölsken's research included the compilation of hundreds of reports, photographs and firsthand interviews resulting in this definitive account of the German Air Force's V-1 and German Army's V-2. In addition Dr. Hölsken also documents the history of the little known V-3 and V-4 developed as the HDP and Rheinbote respectively. The author has also included the fascinating story of the piloted V-1. a special purpose piloted flying bomb advanced during the closing months of the war in Europe. This book is fully annotated and incorporates three appendices covering camouflage and markings, specifications and a list of surviving V-1s and V-2s throughout the world. An index is also provided.
