Bell P-39 Airacobra
Dorr, Robert F. - Scutts, Jerry C.
Crowood Aviation Series
First Edition
The Bell Airacobra, with its distinctive shape and features, is an aeroplane that has taken more than its share of criticism. Although unsuited to fighting at altitude, it was an excellent gun platform for low-level work and a fine ground-attack aeroplane.
Its handling has come in for adverse comment, but it was fast and very heavily armed for its time. It was also able to absorb considerable punishment.
Robert F. Dorr tells the story of Bell's Cobras, from their design and introduction, through their use in the Far East and Russia, to their eventual retirement, in this welcome addition to the Crowood Aviation Series.
