"I believe Air Niugini will be more than just an airline - a means of communication. Airline travel has always been, and will continue to be, a major unifying force within our country. The aircraft has flown over geographical barriers that previously left our people isolated from each other. It has brought together the people of the islands and highlands. It has helped to create a united Papua New Guinea, far more than all the words of our politicians. Because of this I believe it is fitting that when we enter self government we will do so with our own airline."
